For Authors
Submit ManuscriptThe Buffalo Law Review welcomes unsolicited manuscripts on topics of contemporary legal significance. Text should be double spaced or with 2-1/4" margins. Footnotes should conform to the standards set forth in The Bluebook. Manuscripts cannot be returned unless accompanied by a self-addressed, postage-paid envelope. All editorial work is performed on Windows workstations using Microsoft Word software. The Buffalo Law Review cannot accept manuscripts in WordPerfect format.
The Buffalo Law Review reserves editorial privilege with regard to all matters of form, including but not limited to, diction, grammar, spelling, syntax and matters of convention, as well as with regard to the substantive accuracy of citations.
The Buffalo Law Review follows a four-step review process. All submissions are reviewed first by the Executive Editor with a focus on topic, length, and initial quality impressions. Those submissions passing this first round of review are assigned to an Articles Editor for a comprehensive, in-depth review. If the Articles Editor favorably reviews the piece, the Executive Editor critically and fully reads and reviews the submission as well, with a special emphasis on how the piece will fit with the other articles being published by the Review and recent legal scholarship. At this point, the Executive Editor may contact the author for more information about the article. Should the Executive Editor determine or agree that the piece should be published, it is recommended to the Editor-In-Chief who also then reads the piece and makes a final decision to publish it or not. If approval is given, an offer is made to the author.
Due to the large number of submissions received by the Buffalo Law Review each semester, it is typical that only authors whose manuscripts have made it past our first level of review will be contacted. The Buffalo Law Review prides itself in a speedy and thorough articles review process, and will generally extend any offers of publication within one month of receiving a submission.
